THE HISTORY OF THE MANSION

Mehveş Hanım Mansion is estimated to be a one hundred fifty - two hundred years old building. This house, formerly known as ‘Ömer Bey Mansion’, later on has been granted to his son-in-law ‘Filibeli Raşit Bey’ by him. Raşit Bey travelled to Kastomonu where he likely intended to be appointed as an inspector. But he could not succeed and due to financial difficulties he sold the Mansion to the family known as Halomemetler.

It has been quoted that the mansion was completely burned down at a fire started at the neighbourhood and was re-built in 1884 and the tomb accross it was built with the remainings from the re-construction.

It is known that, at a period of time, the daughter or the sister of Asmazlar which had been one of the wealthiest and most noble families in Safranbolu, came to this house as a bride.

The mansion went through a big restoration in 1930.

While known as the “Holomemetler Mansion”, this house remained unused for a quarter of century’s time after 1970’s and has became ruined once more.

In 1997, this building has been sold by it’s owners Fatma Erdemci, Yıldız Çolpan and Mehmet Karadeniz who were the grandchildren of Halomemet and the children of İsmail Bey, to its current owners.

After three full years of restoration, the mansion has been brought up to it’s today’s condition by it’s new owners.

In 2005, a “selamlık” lodge (reserved only for men) was built in the garden of the Mansion.
